This?lecture?explores?some?of?the?key?conceptual?bridges?and?breaks?between?“human”?animals?and?non-human?animals?by?drawing?on?Jacques?Derrida’s?1997?lecture,?“The?Animal?That?Therefore?I?Am?(L'Animal?que?donc?je?suis)”?that?alludes?to?René?Descartes’s?“I?think,?I?am?(Je?pense,?je?suis)”?where?the?“I,”?a?man?or?a?person,?emerges?as?a?thinking?thing?or?animal.?Here,?Derrida?is?turning?the?classical?question,?“do?animals?think?,”?into?that?of?by?what?right?we?can?make?a?special?case?for?“human”?existence.?Furthermore?then:?what?does?it?mean?for?anyone?or?thing?to?have?a?life?(bio),?especially?today?when?biotechnology?challenges?the?very?notion?of?being?(born/dead)??We?will?reflect?on?these?pressing,?ontological?issues?and?tissues?of?life.
